OPI - Oral Proficiency Interview
The OPI is ACTFL's flagship assessment. Available in over 120 languages, the OPI is a 15-30 minute telephonic interview scheduled on a date and time convenient to the test taker and the ACTFL certified OPI Tester.
The OPI Tester asks open-ended questions along the ACTFL Scale of Proficiency from Novice Low to Superior. The OPI is an adaptive test where question level difficulty is adjusted based on the test taker's responses.
The test is similar to a conversation, but a standard interview protocol backs every test element. The recorded speech samples are human rated by ACTFL-certified OPI Raters.
OPIc - Oral Proficiency Interview by Computer
Available in commonly tested languages, the OPIc is a 20–40-minute speaking test conducted via the internet using a computer with a headset and microphone.
The OPIc is built off the testing protocols of the OPI and is an on-demand test type that does not require advance schedule notification to order and administer the assessment.
The OPIc test is available 24/7/365. The test taker listens to open-ended questions presented by a video Avatar. Responses are recorded, then human-rated by ACTFL-certified OPIc Raters.
WPT - Writing Proficiency Test
The 20-80 minute WPT is an internet-delivered test that can be taken anytime, anywhere convenient to the test taker.
Consisting of several open-ended prompts, across various topics of cultural relevance or familiarity, the test prompts candidates to provide written responses to these prompts which are then rated by ACTFL-certified (human) WPT Raters.
LPT - Listening Proficiency Test
The 50-125 minute listening proficiency test assesses a test taker's receptive skills to determine their level of their comprehension.
The LPT is an internet-delivered test , where test takers listen to several passages across an array of topics.
The test taker is presented with several question prompts containing multiple choice response options to select. The LPT is a machine-scored test.
RPT - Reading Proficiency Test
The Reading Proficiency Test (RPT) is a 50–125-minute online assessment designed to measure a test taker’s reading comprehension skills across a variety of authentic contexts.
Delivered via the internet, the RPT presents a series of written passages covering diverse topics and levels of complexity. Test takers respond to multiple-choice questions designed to assess their understanding of main ideas, supporting details, inferences, and overall interpretation.
The RPT is machine-scored, ensuring a fast, accurate, and objective evaluation of reading proficiency according to the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines.
